Mastercam and NcX2Check go to Space
The SPACE project
Recently, shuttle flight STS-134 (the last flight of the Endeavour shuttle) has taken the AMS (Alpha-Magnet-Spectrometer) experiment to the ISS space station. Its detectors will help researchers study the formation of the universe and search for evidence of dark matter as well as investigate antimatter. One component, a flange, produced in collaboration with I. PhysicsInstitute of RWTH Aachen (Germany), has been programmedwith Mastercam and verified with Camaix NcX2Check machinetool verification.
CAM Programming using Mastercam
More than 1000 drilling holes in different work planes needed to be programmed. The complex mechanical structure built out of costly carbon fiber material could not be replaced or repaired incase of mishandling. Programming mistakes or post processor errors would have jeopardized the whole project schedule.
NcX2Check G-Code Driven Machine tool verification
To achieve a smooth implementation of the flange machining cycle, Camaix has successfully accomplished Machine Verification on G-Code based NcX2Check machine tool verification.
